Refer a Case

For lawyers with an injury matter they do not run themselves. We take the file, your client keeps their relationship with you, and referral fees are handled under the Law Society rules.

What we take

Personal injury only, across Ontario. Motor vehicle collisions and accident benefits, slip and fall and occupiers' liability, long-term disability denials, catastrophic and spinal and brain injuries, wrongful death, medical malpractice, product liability, dog bites and municipal claims.

We act only for injured people. We never act for insurers, so there is no conflict waiting on the other side of a referral.

What we do not take

Criminal, family, immigration, corporate or real estate matters. If a file lands with us that belongs elsewhere we will say so quickly rather than sit on it.

What happens to your client

They get a lawyer, not a file number. We do home and hospital visits, and we explain the deadlines in the first conversation, because some Ontario injury notice periods run in days rather than years.

You stay informed at whatever level you and the client want, and the relationship you have with them is not something we compete for.

Referral fees

A lawyer may pay another lawyer a referral fee, but it is capped at 15 percent of the first $50,000 of fees on the matter and 5 percent of anything above that, to a maximum of $25,000. The client, the referring lawyer and the receiving lawyer all sign a referral agreement, and the fee comes out of the receiving lawyer's fee rather than being added to what the client pays.

Law Society of Ontario, Rules of Professional Conduct rr. 3.6-6.0 and 3.6-6.1.

We put the terms in writing at the outset so there is nothing to work out later.

How to refer

Call or email with a one-line description of what happened and the date it happened. The date matters most, because it tells us immediately whether anything is about to run out.

If a limitation or notice period is close, say so at the top of the message and we will pick it up the same day.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions we get every week

Yes. We act only for injured people and never for insurance companies, so a referral cannot create a conflict on that axis.

The date of the incident, a one-line description, and whether any notice has already been given. That is enough for a first answer. Records can follow.

The same business day, and immediately if you flag that a limitation or notice period is close.

No. Under the Law Society rules a referral fee comes out of the receiving lawyer's fee. The client does not pay more because a file was referred.

Contact us

Your fight becomes ours the day you call us.

Consultations are free and there is no obligation. If we take the case you pay nothing unless we win, and if we think you do not have a claim we will tell you that too.

Start your free case review

Tell us what happened. A lawyer reviews every enquiry, and we reply the same business day.

Sending this form does not create a lawyer and client relationship. Please do not include confidential details until we have confirmed we can act for you.
